Can a $50 watch be better than a $5000 watch? Are Casio watches overrated? The answers might surprise you in many ways, especially when you consider the Casio AE-1200WH, also known as the Casio Royale. In a world watches, where quality often comes with a hefty price tag, Casio has managed to redefine value by creating a timepiece that combines advanced features, water resistance and a design that rivals those of watches costing significantly more. But is the Casio Royale as good as everyone says? Let’s dive into that topic:
Why it is called Casio Royale?
Before we go any further, some readers might wonder why this watch is called Casio royale. The watch It has earned its nickname due to its resemblance to the far rarer Seiko G757, which was famously worn by James Bond in the film “Octopussy”. These watches are extremely hard to find and can go for over $5000. Casio ingeniously crafted their own Bond-inspired timepiece, dubbed the “Casio Royale”, paying homage to Ian Fleming’s first Bond novel, “Casino Royale”.
Iconic Design Meets Modern Innovation
Beyond its homage, the watch boasts solid features including world-time functionality and a convenient backlight activated by a simple button push. It has two level display with physical separators for better readability. This also creates the Casio Royale’s attention grabbing timeless design. Reminiscent of classic digital watches that defined an era, this timepiece exudes an air of nostalgia.

Unmatched Functionality for the price
The watch has LCD display, acrylic crystal and the case made of Resin. Of course we would prefer a metal case and a sapphire crystal, but all of this is expected for the price point of this watch, around $50. Affordability doesn’t equate to compromise when it comes to the Casio Royale’s functionality.
Whether you’re a frequent traveler or simply someone who appreciates convenience, the Casio Royale has you covered. With world time capabilities for seamless transitions between 31 time-zones, a built-in stopwatch, and 5 different alarms, this watch seamlessly integrates essential tools into a sleek and compact design. It’s not just a timepiece; it’s a reliable companion for adventures.
Built to Endure
Durability is key when it comes to everyday wear, and the Casio Royale doesn’t disappoint. Engineered with Casio’s renowned water resistance technology and metal screw-back case, this watch offers peace of mind in any environment. The watch is marked as 100M water resistance, meaning you should be able to go swimming with it. It’s a testament to Casio’s commitment to quality and craftsmanship, proving that affordability doesn’t have to mean sacrificing durability.
We haven’t tested the watch underwater, but according to manufacturer you should be good to go.
Conclusion
The Casio Royale AE-1200WH stands as a shining example of value. The watch doesn’t feel particularly expensive or great in hand, primarily due to the materials used. Nonetheless, considering its price point, I’m willing to overlook these shortcomings. You have to keep in mind that this is a $50 watch. You will not get the materials and build quality of $5000 dollar watch. All in all, this is great timepiece, whether you’re a seasoned collector or someone in search of a reliable everyday watch. The Casio Royale AE-1200WH offers unmatched functionality, durability, and style at a price that won’t break the bank. It’s a testament to the fact that quality and affordability can indeed go hand in hand.

There is a metal bracelet version (AE-1200WHD-1A) with case that is color matched. The case material is still resin and not metal even though it might look like it. In my opinion this is the best looking version of Casio Royale, but the bracelet quality might not match your more expensive watches.
